Program Objectives
At the Spectrum Health Cancer Center’s Oncology Symposium 2017, learn of the latest advancements and controversies in cancer screenings as well as tools to help patients and their caregivers cope with a cancer diagnosis.
Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the following objectives:
- Identify individualized breast, colon and prostate cancer screening options for your patient.
- Discuss lung cancer screening criteria and outcomes.
- Hear first-hand the experience of a physician whose husband had lung cancer at age 38.
- Describe the patient experience with hope and healing
Featuring Special Guest: Lucy Kalanithi, MD, FACP
Lucy Kalanithi, MD, FACP is the widow of the late Dr. Paul Kalanithi, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, “When Breath Becomes Air,” for which she wrote the epilogue. An internal medicine physician and faculty member at the Stanford School of Medicine, she completed her medical degree at Yale.
At the cross-section of her career as a medical professional and her personal experience standing alongside her husband during his life, diagnosis, treatment and death, Dr. Kalanithi has special interests in healthcare value, meaning in medicine, patient-centered and end-of-life care.
Target Audiences
Continuing Education
Nursing: This activity has been submitted to the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) for approval to award contact hours. ONS is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Radiology: Application has been made for continuing education credits for radiology staff from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
Pharmacy: Application has been made for continuing education credits for pharmacy staff from the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.
