Assessment of the Brain Injured Patient

Program Summary:
This course will educate clinicians on the various types of clinical assessment tools that may be utilized with the
brain-injured patient. These assessments can be administered by various disciplines at points throughout a patient’s recovery to track progress and implement appropriate treatment plans. This course will also discuss behavior management and family considerations when dealing with patient behaviors following brain injury.

Objectives:

1. Identify the various assessment tools that are availabe to utilize on the brain-injured patient
2. Describe when and how the assessment tools can be useful at different stages/levels of the rehab process
3. Discuss how the assessment tools can assist in directing care, as well as caregive education

Education Information:
Target audience:  Any clinician that provides care or coordinates services for brain injury patients (RN, PT, OT, SLP)
RN:  This course designates up to 1.0 contact hours for nurses.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Division is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers commission on Accreditation.

Accredited status does not imply endorsement by the Inpatient Rehabilitation Division or ANCC of any commercial products or services.

There is no commercial support for this activity.

Requirements for successful completion:  Participants must sign in and out and complete a program evaluation. 

PT:  An application for 1.0 contact hours has been submitted to the Physical Therapy Board.
OT:  This course qualifies for 1.0 contact hours.

SLP:  This course is offered for .10 ASHA CEUs (Introductory level, Related area).
