Do you want to expand your professional network, learn more about specific companies, or secure a full time position? Get ready for the Biomedical & Biosciences Industry Expo (BBIE) and other networking events by attending this workshop highlighting the preparation, practice and process for making the most of a career expo.

Attendees of this workshop will develop key skills and increase confidence by:

  • Developing and practicing their expo “verbal business card”
  • Discussing key networking tips
  • Understanding effective strategies for approaching recruiters

Workshop Presenters:

Marlene Scherer Stern, SoMCC
Rhea Daugherty, SoMCC

Marlene Scherer Stern provides individual counseling/coaching at the SoMCC. Marlene recently retired from Stanford BEAM, Career Education, where she served as an Associate Director/Assistant Dean.  She has 25 years experience working in Career Development in a diversity of roles and is passionate about working with students to better understand themselves, and how they connect to the world of work. Signature career development programs co-designed by Marlene include a career mentoring program for PhD’s and the Stanford Immersion in Medicine Series Program. She is thrilled to help provide career counseling to our trainees and students.  Marlene holds an M.Ed in Higher Education.

Rhea Daugherty serves as Associate Director at the SoMCC. Rhea came to Stanford in 2012 as a graduate student and decided not to leave. Rhea earned an M.Ed from the Graduate School of Education; was a leader in several student programs including ADVANCE, SSRP, and SBSA; and is working to finish her PhD in Genetics. Rhea's passion lies in listening to others and helping them to reach their goals; she enjoys collaborating with students, employers, and campus leaders to build bridges across groups.
