Waiting List For:  No One Dies Alone (NODA) Volunteer Training

Brief Summary: No One Dies Alone (NODA) is a volunteer program that provides a reassuring presence to dying patients who would otherwise be alone in their expected final days or hours. This is a community-wide training. No prior experience is necessary. There is no obligation to volunteer once you complete training.
 
Who should attend:
  • Persons interested in becoming a NODA volunteer (Corewell Health employees and new community volunteers are both welcome).
  • College/University students seeking volunteer experience.
  • Anyone interested in learning about end-of-life care.
 
What you will learn:
  • Learn about historical changes to the meanings of death and dying in Western culture.
  • Understand details about Palliative Care, Hospice, and Advance Care Planning.
  • Understand the procedures and expectations of the NODA program.
  • Practice non-verbal communication skills.
  • Explore feelings and reactions towards end-of-life experiences.
  • Discuss elements of creating healing environments and becoming a healing presence.
  • Consider the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of dying.
  • Reflect on several different self-care and resilience techniques.
 
Paid Registration includes: Light breakfast, boxed lunch, training workbook.

Cancellation Policy:
  • Cancellations during open registration (until April 20) will receive 100% refund. 
  • Cancellations between April 21 - 25 will receive a raincheck voucher usuable at the next training date (Fall 2025)
  • No shows on the day of training forfeit their registration fees.
