Naval Opportunities Awareness Workshop

Tuesday, October 6, 2015 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
WHAT
The Department of Navy's (DoN) Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) Program sponsored East Coast Regional Naval Awareness Workshop that will be held on October 6-7, 2015, on the campus of Howard University in its interdisciplinary Research Building.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the workshop is to provide HBCU's with first-hand information about the opportunities that the Department of Navy (DoN) (which includes Naval Labs, Naval Warfare Centers and Naval agencies), has available for HBCU faculty and students. These opportunities include internships, fellowships, and funding vehicles that are in place to support finding ways to solve and enhance Naval relevant science and technology needs.  It is hoped that this workshop will serve as a catalyst to increase the number of HBCU faculty and students participanting in DoN academic  and professional enrichment programs; as well as increase the number of competitive white papers and proposals that will be received from the attending HBCU's.

DoN Program Managers will present information about their specific programs. Worksop topics will include, but are not limited to:
  • How to effectively write white papers and proposals  when responding to DoD, DoN, and ONR funding opportunity announcements (FOA), and broad area announcements (BAA's)
  • Faculty and student internships and fellowship opportunities available at Naval laboratories
  • Research collaboration opportunities
  • Current DoN research initiatives
