Program Summary:
This introductory course provides a framework for effective management of stroke patients in an acute inpatient rehabilitation setting. Online learning formats provide participants the opportunity to explore the medical, psychosocial and functional impact of stroke as well as offer strategies and interventions to maximize functional outcomes and patient safety.

Overall Objectives:

1. Describe the pathophysiology of stroke
2. Identify common medical complications and their management post stroke
3. Define the role of pharmacology in stroke rehabilitation
4. Explain the neurocognitive and neurobehavioral sequelae following stroke
5. Describe the psychosocial and functional impact of stroke
6. Recall nursing and therapy interventions utilized for stroke patients to promote recovery and safety

This course qualifies for 6.0 contact hours.

RN Credits:
This course designates up to 6.5 contact hour for nurses.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Division is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers commission on Accreditation.  

Accredited status does not imply endorsement by the Inpatient Rehabilitation Division or ANCC of any commercial products or  services. 

There is no commercial support for this activity.


Requirements for Successful Completion: 
Successful completion requires that the learner view all 6 courses of the curriculum. The learner must complete all associated quizzes, receive a minimum score of 80% and complete the curriculum evaluation. Upon successful completion of this activity, the learner will be awarded 6.5 contact hours for RN's and 6.0 contact hours for PT/OT. No partial credits will be awarded for this activity.
