Program Summary

This educational session was designed for clinicians who treat and/or work with patients who have suffered from a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). This in depth review of stroke rehabilitation provided information on consequences of stroke, discussed findings specific to location of the stroke and allowed for discussion on ways to determine specific areas of the brain that were affected by stroke.

Cheryl Scott, PT, DPT, NCS, CBIS-T, CSRS, c/NDT

Cheryl Scott is the Director of Rehabilitation at HonorHealth Rehabilitation Hospital. She obtained her CBIS certification in 2013 and since then has been certified by the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists as a trainer for course preparation. Additionally, she is an adjunct professor at Franklin Pierce University in the Graduate Physical Therapy Program within their physical therapy neurology program teaching treatment techniques for spinal cord injury, ASIA scoring, stroke, brain injury, and neurological developmental techniques.

Objectives

  • Describe the etiology and characteristics of a person with a stroke
  • Discuss the neuroanatomy of a person with a stroke
  • Identify medical, physical, and cognitive consequences of injury
  • Describe screening tools and outcome measures used in the stroke population

Requirements for successful completion: Participants must sign in and out and complete a program evaluation.


PT: An application for 1.0 contact hours has been submitted to the Arizona Physical Therapy Association.


OT: This course qualifies for 1.0 contact hours.


SW: An application for 1.0 contact hours has been submitted to the NASW Arizona Chapter.


CM: This program has been submitted to The Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board certified case managers with 1.0 clock hours.




SLP: This course is offered for 0.1 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
