Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital Division is hosting Grand Rounds webinars.  These webinars are designed to share knowledge throughout the Division and cover a wide range of interesting topics.

Topic:
Neuroplasticity

Description:
Neuroplasticity is a crucial aspect of neurorecovery after brain injury, defined as “the capacity of neurons to structurally and functionally adapt”.  This lecture will describe its underlying principles and pathophysiology and explore techniques to enhance recovery after injury.

Objectives:
1. Describe the underlying principles and pathophysiology of neuroplasticity.
2. Explain how neuroplasticity can potentially be enhanced during rehabilitation to improve neurorecovery.


Requirements for Successful Completion:
In order to receive credit, participants must view the actiivty in its entirety, complete the evaluation, and post-test with a score of at least 80%.  There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME credit.  Statements of credit are awarded upon successful completion and submission of the evaluation form.

Speaker:  Neil Jasey, M.D.


Dr. Neil Jasey is the Director of Brain Injury Services for Kessler Institute and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers/New Jersey Medical School.  Additionally, he is the Director of the Brain Injury Medicine fellowship program at Kessler Institute and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and is the Medical Director of the Model systems for Northern New Jersey.  He has lectured nationally on various topics including spasticity management, aging with traumatic brain injury, brain injury in the elderly, neuroprotection, neuroplasticity and neural recovery, concussion and chronic traumatic encephalopathy.  Additionally, he has multiple publications, has presented at national conferences, is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and holds a subspecialty board certification in Brain Injury Medicine.
