NC Countdown to College 2018

Monday, October 15, 2018 - Friday, October 19, 2018, CAM 2018 begins on Monday, October 15th at 7:30am and ends Friday, October 19th at 5:00pm.
North Carolina’s annual campaign to support college access is moving to the month of October this year, and changing its name to NC Countdown to College.  Activities during the month support high school seniors in completing three important college enrollment steps: residency, FAFSA, and applications.  College Application Week will run October 15th – 19th when volunteers at hundreds of NC high schools help students submit online applications for admission, and some colleges offer application fee waiver opportunities.

While much of the focus of NC Countdown to College is geared toward first-generation college students and students who may not otherwise apply to college, we encourage participating high schools to include activities for all students, including freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have already applied to college.  The general break-down of the month can be found below. A more detailed activity list will be provided for NC Countdown to College.

NC Countdown to College- At-a-Glance

Week 1 (Oct. 1st –Oct. 5th ) - Build Interest for the Event
Week 2 (Oct. 8th-12th) Prepare Students to Apply
Week 3 (Oct 15th-19Th) - Ensure Logistics are in place and apply (This is the actual week that campuses could potentially waive their application fee for all North Carolina graduating high school seniors applying online through CFNC.org )
Week 4 (Oct.  22nd-31st) - Follow-up

During the College Application Month initiative, students are encouraged to apply to at least one college using CFNC.org. This initiative is made possible because of CFNC.org, the comprehensive statewide college access portal with applications accepted by many North Carolina colleges and universities.

To participate in NC Countdown to College 2018 your school must register at CFNC.org and:
  • Identify a site coordinator who will be responsible for planning and implementing the event at your school.
  • Invite all seniors at your school to participate, but focus your efforts on first-generation students and students who may not otherwise apply to college.
  • Make efforts to recruit volunteers such as parents and college representatives to assist the site coordinator and students during the event.
Thank you for your interest in the NC Countdown to Colllege 2018. Should you have any questions about CFNC.org, please contact CFNC by phone at 866-866-CFNC (2362). Additionally, the answers to many NC Countdown to College questions can be found online at CFNC.org/CAM.
